Songs shaped by wind, water and wandering...
... from the North Sea to Southern Shores
Low Lands, High Roads & Tall Tales brings together three distinctive folk voices whose North Sea European heritages find expression on Australia's southern shores, calling Melbourne and surrounds home. While each artist maintains an active individual career, this project brings them together around a shared love of the 60s folk revival and the storytelling tradition at the heart of contemporary folk.
Accompanying them on bass is Craig Kelly, an in-demand multi-instrumentalist who has performed with some of the country’s great storytellers — including Neil Murray (Warumpi Band), Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything), Michael Waugh, Sara Storer, Kerryn Fields, and of course Rich, Mandy and Joyce — bringing a warm, unifying thread to the performance.Collectively, the artists have performed at major festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Byron Blues & Roots, Port Fairy Folk Festival, National Folk Festival and WOMADelaide, as well as internationally across the UK, Europe and North America.Mandy Connell is a recipient of the Declan Affley Award and Maldon Minstrel Award, while Joyce Prescher is a two-time Australian Folk Music Awards finalist. Rich Davies’ songwriting has received national recognition, including a Golden Guitar nomination for “Dirt Under My Nails”, covered by The Bushwackers and included in their Great Australian Songbook.

Dutch-born Joyce Prescher brings a quiet intensity to contemporary folk, crafting poetic, slow-burning songs rich in melody and emotional depth. Her writing carries a European sensibility shaped by landscape, memory and belonging — intimate, immersive and deeply affecting.
